Nick Bostrom is the founding Director of Future Humanity Institute at Oxford University, the research center with a multidisciplinary team of experts working on the big-picture questions for humanity. Bostrom argues that the doomsday scenario where superintelligent AI exposes an existential risk to humanity can be avoided by making an effort now.

Dr. Siemion is an expert on the search for life beyond the Earth and the prospects for detection. He is one of the leaders of the “Breakthrough Listen Initiative” – an effort sponsored by world-renowned astrophysicist, Professor Stephen Hawking, and Yuri Milner’s Breakthrough Prize Foundation, that is conducting the most sensitive search for advanced extraterrestrial life in history.

Risto Miikkulainen, Sentient Technologies
Autosegmentation: Opportunities and Challenges

Machine learning algorithms can reinforce stereotypes and commonly held biases, if not properly applied. However, with detailed enough data, they can also be highly useful. Risto Miikkulainen is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas in Austin and the Vice President at Sentient, an AI technology forerunner company, which combines multiple AI disciplines from deep learning to evolutionary AI and neuroevolution.
Miikkulainen will also host a roundtable discussion “Evolution is the new deep learning” at 12:15–13:45.
